What is AR?

Accelerated Reader is a program in which students read books, take self-directed computerized tests to check comprehension, and then earn points based on questions answered correctly.

Orientation will be conducted for students before classes begin participation.

Where to Test?

Students can take tests on computers networked to the school server.  They can test in classrooms, computer lab or the library.  The library is open before and after school.  Library hours are 7:30am - 4:00pm

AR Labels

AR books in the library are marked with colored labels on the spine.

Level pre 1- golden   .01 - .09
Level        1 - blue      1.0 - 1.9
Level        2 - red        2.0 - 2.9
Level        3 - green    3.0 - 3.9
Level        4 - brown   4.0 - 4.9
Level        5 - yellow   5.0 - 5.9
Level        6 - purple   6.0 - 6.9

Honor Code

(1) Take tests on books read recently.  If possible, students should try to take tests within 2-3 days of finishing a book.  They should not take tests on books they read from last year or the year before.

(2) Do not share answers.  Basically, we encourage students to be honest.  They should not tell others about questions or answers they know from taking a test.  They should not take a test for others.  They should not find answers in the book while testing.  They should not use another student's password to access his or her reading record.

(3) Choose books that are not too easy or too difficult.  In the library we will help your students remember the level that's best for them.

80% or better drawing

When a student scores 80% or better on an AR test in his/her level, the student should drop the test slip in the drawing box located in the library.  The test must be first signed by the teacher or Ms. Perkins before the slip is placed in the box.  A drawing once a month at Flagdeck will be held for students who score 80% or better on their AR quiz.  One AR quiz will be drawn from the K-3 bucket and the other winner will be drawn from the 4-6 grade bucket.  Each winner will receive a popcorn party for his/her entire class.
