About the PTA

Our Mission: “To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.”

Why is the PTA so important to our Newport El students?

Similar to our school's unique history, Newport Elementary PTA was one of the first to be established in California, and began in 1926. It remains one of the longest standing PTAs west of the Mississippi. Year after year, our PTA thrives on providing family and community based programs for the students of Newport El. Our volunteers, who give of their time and talent, ensure success in these programs.

PTA provides parents and teachers with a way to share their experience and knowledge about children. PTA members support public education and work to improve children's health and safety. PTAs speak on behalf of children--who can't effect change for themselves--at local, state and national government levels.

Membership is open to anyone who believes in the mission and purposes of the PTA.  Every person who joins Newport Elementary PTA automatically becomes a member of both the state and national PTAs. Dues are $10.

Some of the programs we have are:

PTA Executive Board 2017-2018

President - Kathy Sinacori

VP Membership - Dena Baron

VP Fundraising - Helen Mikkelsen

Secretary - Alex Valencia

Treasurer - Joe Stack

Historian - Abbey Hill

Auditor- Heather Hansberger

Parliamentarian - Kirsten Price

Together we are a powerful voice for children. With your help, we can continue to work toward PTA's goal of a quality education and nurturing environment for every child.

Flag Deck

What is a flag deck?  Our flag decks are for the students, and all parents/families are welcome to join.  Flag decks are the 1st & 3rd Friday of every month starting at 8:05 am unless otherwise stated per our school calendar.  Students first meet in their classrooms and are walked out to sit as a class at the flag deck.  Flag decks are in the middle court yard in the center of the school by the big Flag.  From Character building to awards and even performance it’s a fun start to any ones morning!
